Banking and Finance

Department Overview

Founded in 1991 within the Faculty of Business, the department has grown alongside the financial industry it serves. Its early focus on banking, investment, and financial markets laid a strong academic base. As finance moved from paper ledgers and trading floors to digital platforms, data analytics, and automated systems, the department evolved with it. Today it is one of the leading academic centers for finance and financial technology (Fintech) in Jordan and the wider region.
Each stage of the department’s development reflects a shift in how finance is practiced. Programs first built on core finance and banking theory now include the technologies reshaping the sector: digital banking, electronic trading, financial data analytics, and technology-driven risk management. Faculty members bring together strong academic credentials and professional experience in banking, investment, financial markets, FinTech, and risk management. This gives students a view of both where finance came from and where it is heading.
The department offers programs in both Arabic and English tracks. Coursework pairs rigorous theory with applied research, field training, and hands-on use of specialized financial software and digital tools. Graduates learn finance through the technologies they will use at work.
In response to the rapid digital transformation of the global financial sector, the department launched the Bachelor’s Program in Financial Technology (FinTech) and Risk Management. The program brings finance and digital innovation together in one curriculum. Students learn how technology-driven financial solutions are designed and implemented, and how to identify and manage the new risks that arise in a data-driven economy. It was developed to meet growing demand in local and regional markets for professionals who combine solid financial knowledge with technological skill.
The department also offers the Master’s Program in Finance and Risk Management, recognized as one of the most distinguished postgraduate programs among public and private universities in Jordan. Aligned with international academic standards, the program develops advanced analytical, quantitative, and risk assessment skills. These are the capabilities most valued in increasingly data-intensive financial markets.

Head of Department

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Department of Finance and Banking at Applied Science Private University.
Finance has changed more in the past two decades than in the century before it. Banking has moved from branches to mobile screens. Trading has moved from exchange floors to algorithms. Decisions once based on intuition now rely on data, analytics, and increasingly on artificial intelligence. Our department’s mission is to prepare graduates who don’t just keep up with this transformation but help lead it.Since its establishment in 1991 within the Faculty of Business, the department has grown alongside the industry it serves. We began with a strong foundation in banking, investment, and financial markets, and we have steadily built financial technology, data, and risk management into our programs. Our faculty combine distinguished academic qualifications with real professional experience in banking, investment, FinTech, and risk management. This lets us connect theory directly to how finance is practiced today.
At the undergraduate level, we offer a bachelor’s program in Financial Technology and Risk Management, taught in both Arabic and English tracks. The program brings finance and technology together. Students work with specialized financial software and digital tools, take part in applied research and field training, and learn to manage the new risks that come with a data-driven financial system.
At the postgraduate level, our master’s program in Finance and Risk Management is among the most distinguished in Jordan and the region. Built on a curriculum aligned with international programs, it develops the advanced analytical and quantitative skills that today’s financial institutions demand. It also strengthens graduates’ competitiveness in local, regional, and global markets. We believe a university department should be part of its community, not separate from it. We continue to build partnerships with financial institutions and the wider community. We also offer training programs for those preparing to enter, or advance within, the banking and financial sectors, especially as these sectors adopt new technologies.
Thank you for visiting our website. Whether you are a prospective student, a partner institution, or a member of our community, we look forward to welcoming you and answering any questions you may have.

Dr. Murad Mujahed

Acting head of Department
